More passion, less pedagogy: John Boyer at TEDxVirginiaTech
"More inspiration, less standardisation" John Boyer
The human factor can be perceived as becoming less prevalent in an online learning environment, and in some cases this is true. Is there a risk of losing this aspect that great teachers have to inspire, motivate and engage learners. How can this be duplicated in the online environment?

ReplyDeleteThanks for this Isaac. Funny, I agree with what he's saying but find the way he's saying it totally off-putting. Maybe some people are better to express themselves in writing? Reminds me of a time I read a book I loved so much I googled the author, and when I heard her speaking I was put off the book!! Perhaps that's one thing about online learning, that there is a choice in how to present ideas.

ReplyDeleteThese text ted series are great he is very enthusiastic isn't he. I agree to it is an interesting topic. Do I have a favorite teacher. Yes but I remember I liked him for all the wrong reasons.
He was our geography teacher at secondary school and we had some really naughty young men who always sat at the back. Funny do you do that when you go to a conference. Sit at the back I mean.
Anyway I digress. This teacher would be writing on the board (we had chalk in those days) luckily. and the guys at the back were always doing something really stupid, I mean stupid. Well he'd be writing and they would just keep making all this noise and you know naughty. Well he would just swivel on his feet (he was a big man) and chuck the chalk he was holding at the offender - never missed, was funny.
Can't do that nowadays you'd get a serious misconduct.......Averill
